Judging
Once all films have been received by the submissions deadline, judging of the films will commence. A panel of judges comprised of local film/video production, art professionals, and film enthusiasts will select the winners for each category.
As part of Falls Church’s FIRSTfriday, the highest rated films that were not chosen as winners will be screened at two different locations in the City on Friday, Nov. 2nd. Screenings at F.A. McGonegal (212 N. West St.) begin at 6:30pm and run until 8:30pm) and the showings at Art and Frame of Falls Church (111 Park Ave.) run from 8pm until 10pm. The audience will be given forms where they can rate which films they like the best and those that come in first, second, and third at each location will be given Falls Church Film Festival Honorable Mention awards.
Note: The screenings at McGonegal will be a little bit more family oriented, while a few of the films at Art and Frame deal with some topics that--one could say--are more adult in nature. None of the films contain scenes that are too shocking or inappropriate for kids to see. And trust me...that does not mean they aren't edgy!
The Awards Ceremony
The winning films will be shown in their entirety at the awards ceremony held on Tuesday, November 13th at the State Theatre. After the presentation of their film, the filmmakers who produced it will be brought up on stage to receive their “Lois” award for being the best film in their particular category. The Lois is a one of a kind statuette made by noted Falls Church artist Klara Sever.
In addition to the showing of the films, and the award presentations, the evening will feature live music from a local band and an exhibition of the works of a local artist.
The State’s bar will be open and seated dining will be available. Tickets can be bought at the State Theatre box office or they can be pre-purchased online at TheStateTheatre.com.
